Everything we wish parents knew before joining

This is the honest, unfiltered version, not a brochure. Genius Plus Academy is a Singapore primary and secondary Math specialist, founded in 2017 by Mrs Eileen Toh, a former MOE teacher. Below is the full picture, who teaches your child, what a lesson actually looks like, and whether we're the right fit for your family, so you can decide with clear eyes.

💌 Why this isn't your typical tuition brochure

We know it's been tough. From homework battles to watching confidence chip away with every test result, you may have felt that sinking feeling, the one where you wonder if your child will ever "get" Math, or worse, if they've started believing they're just "not a Math person."

Maybe your child is struggling. Maybe they're doing okay and you want them to excel. Maybe you've tried other centres and left feeling like it was more of the same. However you found us, we're glad you did, and we'd rather be honest with you than sell to you.

So here's what we won't do: throw around "proven methods" without showing you what that means, promise miracle transformations in four weeks, pretend every child learns the same way, or make you feel guilty for not being able to teach Math yourself. What we will do is show you exactly how we work, introduce the real humans who'll be teaching your child, and give you the full picture, results, methods, materials, and yes, even the snacks, so you can decide if we're right for your family. By the end you'll either think "yes, this is it" or "not quite the right fit," and both answers are perfectly okay.

🧠 Why we only do Math, and why that matters

You've seen the "we teach everything" centres. We made a deliberate, narrower choice: we only teach Mathematics, primary and secondary. Full stop. It's the difference between a general clinic and a specialist you drive across town to see.

Because Math is all we do, all of our time goes into it. Every textbook is built for the Singapore MOE syllabus rather than adapted from an international one. Every tutor lives and breathes that syllabus. When other centres are preparing comprehension passages, we're writing a new topical workbook because we spotted a gap in how a topic is being tested, redesigning a P6 bootcamp, or reviewing years of PSLE and top-school prelim papers to spot how questions are trending. It's a level of focus you can only reach by refusing to spread thin.

  • Every resource is grade-specific, from P1 to Sec 4, matched to the latest syllabus.
  • We know which question types recur, because we've analysed decades of papers.
  • Our teachers are Math people first: former MOE teachers, NIE-trained educators, and top scorers in their own right.

👩‍🏫 The Mrs Eileen Toh story

Mrs Toh was a trained teacher working in Singapore schools, carrying one persistent thought: what if we could help students in a different way? Not because schools are bad, but because with 30 to 40 children in a class, real personalisation is nearly impossible.

So she started tutoring privately. Word of mouth spread. Parents began saying things like "my child actually understands fractions now," and "he doesn't cry before Math tests anymore." It worked because she finally had the time to understand each child's struggles, the freedom to teach at the right pace, and resources she could design from scratch. In 2017, she made it official, and Genius Plus Academy was born.

We don't use off-the-shelf workbooks. Every textbook, worksheet and question is written in-house by Mrs Toh and her team, more than 60 textbooks and over 40 topical workbooks, all built for the Singapore curriculum and updated regularly. Parents tell us, "I wish my school had materials this clear." And Mrs Toh hasn't stepped back into an office: she still teaches, marks, runs bootcamps and designs materials, hands-on, every week.

Her credentials

  • Master of Education (M.Ed), NIE
  • Bachelor of Arts (Honours) in Education, NIE
  • Former MOE teacher; lead author of 60+ GPA textbooks
  • Mother of four boys

🧑‍🏫 The people who'll actually teach your child

Not generic "experienced tutors", real, named people your child will come to know. Our team is women-led, degree-qualified, and trained in the GPA Method, so the standard you meet in a trial lesson is the standard you keep. A few of them:

Mrs Eileen Toh

Founder & Curriculum Architect

M.Ed (NIE), former MOE teacher, author of 60+ in-house textbooks.

Ms Arina Rauf

Principal Tutor & HOD, Primary

B.Sc. (Hons), top PSLE scorer in her cohort. Believes in immediate feedback so students learn from mistakes.

Ms JS Lee

Head of Primary Math

B.Sc. (Hons), 6+ years teaching, mentored by Mrs Toh. Patient and calm; breaks hard concepts into clear steps.

Between them, our teachers include former MOE teachers, NIE-trained educators, top scorers and Math Olympiad medallists, specialists who have written the very books your child learns from. You can read every profile, and the frameworks each teacher uses in class, on our tutors page.

🎒 What a lesson actually looks like

One structured lesson a week, onsite or over Zoom, running around 1.5 to 2 hours depending on level. The rhythm is the same every time: teach the concept with clarity, apply it to real exam questions, practise with immediate feedback, then close by celebrating a small win so your child leaves feeling capable rather than defeated.

Classes are deliberately small so no child disappears into the back row. Your child isn't Student #482 who attends Monday 5pm. They're the one who finally understood fractions after a tutor used pizza slices, or the one who used to hide test papers and now asks for extra practice. Every child has a name, a story and a learning style here, and we teach to it.

📚 Materials & recordings

Your child starts with a proper kit: a term textbook (custom-printed every 10 to 12 weeks), topical workbooks drawn from a library of 40+ exclusive titles, and practice papers, past-year, school prelims and mock exams, all delivered in a GPA tote bag. Everything is written in-house, matched to the latest MOE syllabus, updated yearly, and organised by topic and difficulty.

And every single lesson is recorded, Zoom lessons included. That means past recordings to revisit any time, bite-sized concept videos, and PDF notes and answer keys each week. If your child is stuck on a Sunday night, the explanation is always there to replay, rewind and rewatch, as many times as they need.

✏️ Homework & exit questions

Weekly homework is set from what was taught in class, then submitted, personally marked, and returned with detailed feedback, not a tick and a grade, but where your child went wrong and how to fix it.

Before a child leaves the room, they solve an Exit Question: a short problem that proves they actually understood the lesson, rather than just watched it happen. If something didn't land, we catch it that day, not three weeks later at the next test. And if your child is struggling between lessons, you can book a consult (free and unlimited), reach us on WhatsApp, or lean on the dedicated parent group.

🍫 Snacks, rewards & the little things

Learning Math is hard work, so we make the room a place children actually want to be. Onsite, there's a stocked snack pantry, chocolates, biscuits, Milo, Ribena, 100 Plus, green tea, cup noodles and more, free and regularly restocked. A hungry child doesn't concentrate; a looked-after one does.

We also run a points-based reward system, points for improvement, effort and completed homework, that children redeem for stationery, vouchers, snacks and certificates. It rewards effort, not just natural talent; no free-iPad gimmicks. P6 graduates are treated to an annual Universal Studios Singapore trip after PSLE, and we run holiday bootcamps in June, September and December, with the classroom kept open as a study space during exam periods, tutors on standby.

🔄 Flexibility, because life happens

Onsite or Zoom, switch whenever you need to with a little notice. Missed a lesson? Watch the recording, no limit. Want to rewatch a whole topic before prelims, slowing down and pausing as you go? That's built in. WhatsApp support covers homework questions, concept clarifications and consult bookings, and parents sit in a dedicated group with weekly updates: what was taught, homework deadlines, revision tips, and any concerns a tutor wants to flag.

Consults are free and face-to-face or over Zoom, no "top up for 30 minutes" nonsense. The whole thing is modular: binge three weeks of recordings before a prelim, skip two weeks for a family holiday and catch up online, or lean on recordings and consults if that suits your child better. We fit around your family, not the other way round.

🫶 Our culture

No fear-based learning. No shaming. We praise growth, not perfection. A child who's struggling isn't "bad at Math", they're still learning, and we treat them that way. The rooms are air-conditioned, clean, calm and comfortable, the kind of place a nervous child can breathe.

Our favourite moments are small: a child who used to hate Math asking for extra homework; a parent messaging "she got AL2, we're crying"; a Sec 4 student coming back after O-Levels just to say thank you; P6 grads at Universal Studios, quietly proud of how far they've come. High standards, high support, always both.

"My eldest son improved from F9 to B4, and my second son went from D7 to A1 during his O-Level prelims. The results speak for themselves."
A parent of two GPA students, shared with us.

Testimonials reflect individual experiences shared with us; individual results vary with each student's starting point and effort.

Questions parents ask before joining

Why does Genius Plus Academy only teach Math?

Yes, every lesson, including Zoom lessons, is recorded. Your child can rewatch any lesson unlimited times, and you'll also get weekly PDF notes, answer keys and bite-sized concept videos.
