Looking for a math tutor? Choose the system, not the luck of the draw

The risk with a private math tutor is that quality depends on the one person you happen to get. At Genius Plus Academy, the system delivers the quality; the tutor delivers the system. Every tutor is trained in the GPA Method and teaches from the same in-house materials, so the lesson is consistent. Group classes first; Private 1-to-1 when a child genuinely needs it.

A Genius Plus Academy math tutor guiding a student through a problem

What to look for in a math tutor

  • A method, not a personality: is the quality repeatable, or does it walk out the door if the tutor leaves?
  • Marking that comes back: weekly personalised feedback, not just a tick.
  • Diagnosis before drilling: do they find the real gap before adding work?
  • Honesty about format: a good tutor will tell you when 1-to-1 isn't needed yet.

Why "system over tutor" matters

At most centres the tutor delivers the quality. Here, the system does.

A great individual tutor is wonderful, until they're booked out, move on, or have an off week. We built GPA so the quality lives in the method and the materials, not in one person. That is why a child can change tutors or branches and still get the same lesson.

Trained in one method

Every tutor is trained in the GPA Method by Mrs Eileen Toh and her team, so they teach the same way of reading a question and choosing a method, not their own private style.

The same materials, every class

Tutors teach from our own 60+ textbooks and 40+ workbooks, written in-house. The lesson does not depend on what one tutor happens to prepare that week.

Quality you can re-watch

Every lesson is recorded, homework is marked weekly with personalised feedback, and consults are unlimited and free. The support does not stop when the class ends.

Genius Plus Academy's in-house math workbooks that every tutor teaches from

Every tutor teaches from the same books we wrote.

A tutor is only as consistent as what they teach from. Ours teach from a complete in-house curriculum, 60+ textbooks and 40+ workbooks, written and refined over eight years. That is how a new student gets the same standard as a long-time one.

Group or 1-to-1, honestly

A private tutor is the last resort, not the default.

Many parents arrive sure they need 1-to-1. Often, a small group class does more, learning to work through a problem alongside peers, with the tutor catching gaps, is part of how students grow. We suggest Private 1-to-1 only when a specific gap genuinely calls for it.

Max 8

Per group class, so every gap is caught without a child losing the room.

Weekly

Personalised homework marking, the same in a group class as in 1-to-1.

Free

Unlimited 1-to-1 consults, onsite or on Zoom, on top of group classes.

Last resort

Private 1-to-1, recommended only when a child genuinely needs it.

How to start with a GPA tutor

Start in a group; move to 1-to-1 only if needed.

Whichever you choose, the tutor is trained in the same method and teaches from the same materials. We'll tell you honestly at the diagnostic which one fits, and if the group class is all your child needs, we'll say so.

Already a GPA student? You don't need to choose from here, your teacher will recommend exactly what your child needs.

AL6AL4 by Prelimsin a small group class
"My child was scoring AL6 for Math in P6 Term 1, improved to AL5 in Term 2, then AL4 in Prelims. The lessons are cast on a huge TV screen so every student can see clearly. There are constant updates, recorded lessons, and so much support."

Choosing a math tutor, questions parents ask

Will my child get the same tutor every week?

Yes, classes have a consistent tutor. But because every tutor is trained in the same GPA Method and teaches from the same materials, your child gets a consistent lesson even if a cover is ever needed. The quality lives in the system, not in one individual.

Is a private 1-to-1 math tutor better than a group class?

Not always. For most students a small group class (max 8) does more, learning to work through problems alongside peers builds independence. We treat Private 1-to-1 as the last resort for a specific gap, not the default. At the diagnostic we'll tell you honestly which one your child needs.

What are your math tutors' qualifications?

Our tutors hold strong academic backgrounds and, just as importantly, are all trained in the GPA Method by Mrs Eileen Toh, a former MOE teacher with an M.Ed from NIE who built our curriculum. What matters most is that they all teach the same proven system, from the same materials.

How much does a math tutor cost?

It depends on the format, group class or Private 1-to-1, and the level. We give you a clear, itemised quote at the free diagnostic consult, with no obligation. Financial assistance is available case-by-case for families with genuine need.

Do you offer a trial lesson?

Yes, a free trial lesson, one per child, starting with a short diagnostic, so you can see a GPA tutor teach before you decide. No pressure, no hard sell. We usually reply within the hour.
