PSLE Math 2023 Paper 2 Question 16

Handwritten notes with diagrams solving a problem about pins on a board, triangles, and calculating the area of cards, with measurements and formulas in blue and purple ink.

a) 24 pins were placed along the perimeter of the board.
24 - 2 -2 = 20
No. of pins along each length = 20 ÷ 2 = 10
Length of AB = (10 - 1) x 40 cm
              = 360 cm

b) Area of 1 triangle = 1/2 x 40cm x 20cm
= 400cm^2
    No. of triangles along the length = (360cm - 20cm) ÷ 40cm
      = 320cm ÷ 40cm
        = 8
Total no. of triangles = (3 + 8) x 2
= 22
Total area of the cards = 22 x 400cm^2
    = 8800cm^2
